Abstract

Many of the secondary metabolites / plant constituents are responsible for medicinal and allied properties of plants. Their classification is based on chemical structure, composition, their solubility in various solvents, or the pathway by which they are synthesized. The exact role these metabolites play in the plant is precisely not understood, but it may arguably be beyond the protection. The present investigation was carried out to analyze the presence of potentially bioactive phyto-constituents in different leaf extracts obtained using water, methanol, ethanol, and chloroform from leaves of  Celosia argentea L. and Cassia tora L. plants.  The present work deals with the screening of various phytochemicals present in various these extracts. The preliminary phyto chemical screening revealed that the leaf extract of Celosia argentea and Cassia tora contains alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phytosterol, flavonoids, and glycosides
