Literature and Society throughout the Centuries

Abstract

In most theories about literature and society, their relationship focus mainly about the influence, social control and values. Literature is a mirror in reflecting norms and culture to the society. Literature not only follows the present era but also never forget to mention what past it has attended. It is not difficult to explain what literature has done for the growth of society because without the support of society no writer can make any literary art worth appealing and reading. Philosophical point of view and imagination help the society to look forward in their life and get better ideas for their living. Society and literature go hand-in-hand from centuries and can never be parted. Whatever a society needs is all exist in literature for the betterment of its present and future. This can be better understood in this paper by discussing some of the Indian and foreign literature as example.
