Knowledge Seeking Behaviour of Students

Abstract

Knowledge is the key to success. The present era is the era of information and knowledge. For sustaining in todays competitive world knowledge has become the most important element. The challenging modern era, demands knowledge of every field. Individual especially engineering students thrive hard to gain knowledge as much as they can to meet the demands of fast changing job market. This knowledge seeking behaviour of students is further enhanced by the use of several electronics resources available today as well as print media resources available in the library. Education environment is undoubtedly being affect ted by the growth of internet. Thus every educational institution is accepting the need of having access to the internet .Use of online resources in education has increased rapidly since 1990. Information needs of engineering students are more refined and complex. Every education institute is required to understand the importance of knowledge seeking behaviour of students and focus on equipping librarians, faculty, doctoral supervisors and administration to assist shaping those behaviours by providing them appropriate and required services and training. The present paper is based on literature review of all the available literature related to the topic, including published various research papers, different websites, newspapers etc. The study finds that knowledge seeking behaviour should be encouraged in engineering students to successfully create a healthier environment aiming at raising the knowledge gaining standards of students. The study also proposed suggestions for building a supportive environment for encouraging knowledge seeking behaviour in the nation.
