EFFECT OF AEROBIC EXERCISE ON WORK ABILITY AMONG BLUE COLLAR WORKERS
Abstract
Purpose This study assessed the effects of a worksite aerobic exercise intervention among blue collar workers on work ability.
Methods A randomized controlled trial (work location; sex; age; length of service) to aerobic exercise(ACSM Guidelines 1998) and [N = 50, 40-55, both males and females with body mass index (BMI) >25 receiving 4 weekly aerobic exercise sessions and non exercise group receiving health promoting lectures. Self-reported data on outcomes and socio demographic information were collected at baseline and work ability index (Tuomi et al. 1998)was measured pre exercise and post exercise. All outcomes were analyzed using SPSS Version 20.0. It was hypothesized that Work ability increased in the aerobic exercise among the participants aged ? 45 years.
Conclusion Work ability improved and exercise for two weeks was insufficient to affect the outcome emphasizing that longer interventions may be needed to induce more significant effect on work ability.
