FROM WHORIFICATION TO DEIFICATION : A CRITICAL STUDY OF IMAYAM’S THE BINDING VOW

  • Dr. H. ABDUL HADI

Abstract

Dalit Literature is a powerful discourse on the problems and challenges faced by Dalits in a caste ridden society like India. It is mostly testimonial in nature as they are written by writers who are Dalit themselves and who have first-hand experiences of the social rejection and discrimination because of their caste tag. Dalit Writers portray these problems through different genres of literature in an authentic way. Imayam, a writer from Tamil Nadu uses novels and short stories not only to address these issues but also to capture the lifestyle, beliefs and culture of Dalits. The present study is about Imayams short fiction The Binding Vow in which he critically interrogates the problems of Dalits in a caste society and the ways Dalits respond to these challenges.
