Abstract

Reinforced soil is a composite construction material formed by combining frictional soil and reinforcement in the form of sheet, strip, net, mat of metal, synthetic fabrics or fiber reinforced plastics. This technique is used to improve the engineering characteristics of soil known as reinforced soil using geo synthetic sheets or strips in any form like woven, non-woven or composite of galvanized steel in desired directions which is widely used in civil engineering practice. The main aim of this paper is to review the history, benefits and applications of different types of geo synthetic family materials in soil reinforcement through reference to published scientific data.
