Abstract

The present investigations to study the induced mutagenesis of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (EMS) on the seed germination, seedling survival and LD50 value of P.sumatrense the seeds of little millet were treated with selected concentrations of EMS viz, 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45 and 50mM. The untreated seeds were used as control. The EMS treated and control seeds were kept in Petri plates methods for germination and field condition of seed germination and seedling survival percentage were studied. The germination percentage was calculated on 15th day of growth after sowing and seedling survival proportion at 30th day after sowing .The 50% reduction of seed germination was observed as LD5o (Lethal dosage) value was calculated at 15th day after sowing. The 50 % reduction of seed germination in 30mM of EMS treatment. The seed germination and seedling survival also decreased with increase in the concentration of EMS.

Keywords- EMS, LD50,Little millet.
