Abstract

 Mutual fund industry in the global market has generated huge corpus and has got extremely high recognition by different segments of investors prefer to invest in the various schemes offered by some of the world reputed asset management companies. Indian market has also witnessing the same, investors can now choose suitable scheme that gives better return on investment, it is very much imperative for both fund managers and asset management companies to manage the fund portfolio effectively to make the investors and regulatory body fulfilled with required obligation. This research work gives a complete insight on forming a suitable mutual scheme that attract all types of investors starting from a retail individual investor to a large corporate. The required data collected as part of this research work is primarily by visiting few banks and broker dealers with in Chennai city, interacted with walk-in investors and called few investors over telephone to seek required information. Alternatively, information was also collected by contacting few fund managers managing currently different mutual fund schemes. The study highlights different occasions which can be a positive motivating factor for investors to invest in the mutual fund scheme, the occasions could be largely categorized as Marriage, regional festivals, birthday, new employment, gift to children or grand children only. It also considers the low risky asset clauses to be invested by the fund manager to minimize the risk in the fund portfolio.
