Langston Hughes and the Deferred American Dream: A Study of Select Poems

Abstract

Langston Hughes recoded in his poems the conflicting experiences of his race that was facing racial injustice in America. On the one hand black Americans were enthralled by the utopia of the American Dream and, on the other, they were pained by the bitter reality of racial discrimination, poverty and social injustice faced by the blacks in America.
