Abstract

Parkinsons disease (PD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by bradykinesia, rigidity, resting tremor, and postural instability. The progressive nature of the disease often leads to various troubles for the patient in walking and performing activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, and toileting. The oral dopaminergic medications help the patient to control motor and non-motor symptoms for some duration of time. It is imperative for the clinicians to maintain the on-time of the medication for which the clinician may change the dose and/or the frequency of administration of medicines. In this case report , a 71 years old female subject diagnosed with PD for more than 15 years. The cinnamon + honey therapy demonstrated clinical improvement in the on-time administered along with oral pharmacological medicine. The potential benefit of cinnamon may be due to neurotrophic, neuroprotective and anti-neuroinflammation properties of cinnamon in neuronal and glial cells of the brain. However, high quality controlled trials are warranted further to evaluate the potential benefit of cinnamon in the treatment patient with PD.
