PLANTS AS PROMISING ALTERNATIVE SOURCES FOR ANTIFUNGAL COMPOUNDS

Abstract

The vicinity of pathogenic fungi is increasing responsible for causing serious local and systemic infections in humans. The marketed antifungal drugs are not fully effective and safe. Many plants have been used since traditional times and plays important role in healthcare history. Many common plant species shows effectiveness in the treatment of fungal infections and can also manage fungal diseases outbursts. The phytomolecule possesses enormous therapeutic potential and that too without causing reasonable side effects which are often linked with the use of synthetic antimicrobials. In the present review article, we discuss plant based antifungal compounds which shows effectiveness in treating fungal infections.
