Abstract

Development in the fields of phytochemistry and phytopharmacology has increased the exploration of ethnomedicines for effective compositions of the drugs and their biological attributes. Hence, active molecules are being screened for different ethnobotanical and pharmacological activities for development of new drugs and formulations. Eriobotrya japonica (E. japonica) is a Chinese traditional medicinal plant belonging to the family Rosacea. Recent studies based on the antidiabetic effect of E. japonica have been suggesting its role in reducing blood glucose level. It is also being reported for its anti-oxidant, anti-viral, neuroprotection, hepatoprotective, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. Present review will brief us about ethnobotanical potential in traditional medicines.
