Eexploring Therapeutic Potential of Dalbergia Sissoo

Abstract

Ayurveda is the ancient science describes various diseases and their treatments. It is using medicines originated from the natural sources like herbals, animals, minerals and metals. Generally, plants are used as a primary source to prepare different types of the ayurvedic formulations. However, many plants and their species are still need to be explored for their therapeutic potential. One of such trees is Dalbergia sissoo Roxb which is mainly utilized as a fuel and its wood is used for the preparation of furniture. Although, different references available in the texts of Ayurveda describing use of Dalbergia sissoo as a medicine to treat many diseases. Recent studies have been supporting its role in the therapeutic application as described in Ayurveda. Present review is based on the collection of different references based on the multidimentional of therapeutic profile of Dalbergia sissoo Roxb.
