ISLAMIC REVIVALISM IN UZBEKISTAN: UNDER ISLAM KARIMOV REGIME

Abstract

The Research paper is mainly focusing or highlighting, the nationalist movement started to restore the indigenous Islamic culture. How, Gorbachevs policy of glasnost and perestroika gave chance to mass population towards freedom of expression, eruption of the opposition movement. How Islam Karimov established his authoritarian regime. The role of main opposition political parties as Birlik (Unity), the Erk (freedom party), Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party. President  Islam Karimovs role towards Islam and Islamic revivalism into the state. The challenges faced by government to control the instability into the state. As well as, the violence and unrest witnessed immediately after the independence of Uzbekistan.
