Abstract

Organizational commitment (OC) is considered a critical factor in the attainment of organizational goals. Some demographic variables have been found to impact organizational commitment. The present study is aimed to examine the organizational commitment in terms of various demographic characteristics of the employees in the Indian Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. The study utilizes a survey research method and responses were obtained from 453 participants working in the top ten BPO organizations across the major BPO hubs in India. This study shows a comparison based on the gender and marital status of BPO employees with regard to their organizational commitment. The result reveals that gender and marital status had an insignificant relationship with the organizational commitment of BPO employees. Though the outcome of the t-test was insignificant for both gender and marital status, yet there were differences in the mean scores within the groups concerning their organizational commitment. Females had greater commitment towards their organization as compared to the male employees. Similarly, married employees showed slightly higher commitment than the unmarried employees with minor difference in their mean scores.
