Abstract

This paper objective is to obtain optimal solution to large, non-linear and mixed integer short term hydro thermal scheduling for minimizing the operating cost. Augmented Lagrange Multiplier (ALM) method is presented for solving the generation scheduling optimization problem using General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) software. A comparative study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ALM method on the parameters of cost minimization and computational speed against the well known Meta heuristic optimization tool such as Gradient search, Genetic Algorithm, Improved Fast Evolutionary Programming, Simulated Annealing, particle Swarm optimization applied on a test case.
