Impact of FDI in Retail Customer in India

Abstract

Foreign direct investment plays a vital role in the growth of any economy. It brings in additional capital and comes with lot more other advantages. In india, the retailing sector is one of the fastest growing sectors. Besides various other reasons, this is one of the major reasons  for why foreign investors are attracted to invest in this sector in india. Recently, the government of india has announced its latest policy FDI which allows for upto 100% FDI in single brand retailing and upto 51% in case of multi-brand retailing. A lot of discussions have been made on this issue, conferences have been held, people have written a lot of research articles on effect of this policy on indian economy- its advantages and dis-advantages; but much attention has been paid to the issue that how this inflow of foreign capital is going to effect the customers in the long run. Will organised retailing companies be able to better manage the customer relations and retain them for long run? Or will there be any disadvantages also? These questions justify the need for this research. It will relate FDI with customer retention.
