Abstract

Women in a country like India make up about half of the population. Without the participation of the entire population, the development of any country is not possible. Half of our population is still engaged in household activities in India. Women are expected to contribute to the nation's overall growth in the financial, economic, cultural and political spheres.73rd constitutional amendment has provided a reservation of one-third of total seats in local self-governance in order to improve their political participation. Women have now a 50% quota in the institutions of Panchayati Raj (Local Self Governance). The reason women are given this constitutional right is to increase their participation in local government, especially in decision-making. This paper aims to explore women's involvement in J&K's Panchayati raj institutions choosing Baramulla block as an area of study.
