Uses and Applications of Computerized Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in the Central Universities of North-East India

Abstract

Purpose This paper aims is toexplore adoption models of human resource information system (HRIS) and subsequently to investigate users perspective regarding the applications, barriers regarding HRISof Central Universities of North-East India.

Design/methodology/approach Secondary sources as well as Questionnaire based survey was used in the study. The questionnaires weredistributed to 150 respondents and out of which only 104 responses were received. Reliability, validity, descriptive and inference statistics has been used for the analysis.

Findings The results indicatethat mainly HRIS was used at operational and functional level but hardly thereisanyactual utilization of HRIS which could help in saving cost and increasing competitiveness. Therefore, it is suggested to adopt HRIS for strategic level as companies may obtain greater more benefits and efficiencies.

Research limitations/implications The study is limited to the Central Universities of Northeast India. The research paper shall be helpful for organization and professionalsdealing with HR context of Northeast India.

Originality/value Earlier studies mostly were from developed countries and hardly there was on relevant paper on different aspects of HRIS with reference to North East India.
